How To Deep Clean Your Hair And Scalp

We spring clean our houses, our cars are closets, but have you ever thought about doing a spring clean for your hair and scalp? I really recommend doing this at least quarterly. Before I get into the “how” let’s talk about “why”.

Most of us are using several different hair products depending on the day. Some days we wash and condition, others we use dry shampoo or maybe a hairspray. Then for styling maybe one day you are trying to nourish and tame frizz and another day you are adding or enhancing curls. Products over time, depending on the quality, will leave a build up on your scalp and hair and if you dont remove that build up your hair will start to feel heavy, dull and your products will “stop working”

Maybe you’re reading this saying, “I hardly use any product”. The other reason you need to spring clean your hair is because of natural oil and environmental pollutants which can also weigh your hair down and dull its luster. Overtime pollutant and oil buildup can cause damage and potentially hair loss.

First step for spring cleaning your hair and scalp is to do a scalp treatment. I recommend using this oil and this brush to gently exfoliate your scalp. Section your hair off to make sure you exfoliate your entire head.

Then, hop in the shower and wash your hair with a gentle clarifying shampoo. I love this one because it smells great, its a good price and doesnt dry out the hair.

Then you want to do a charcoal detox mask. This will help remove any excess oil, and draw out any toxins and impurities from your scalp and hair.

Last but not least, follow up with a hydrating conditioner or mask. These are my favorites because they are hydrating without feeling heavy so they work for all hair types.
